Twelve Indian nationals were found dead at a restaurant in Georgia’s mountain resort of Gudauri. Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs said in a statement that no signs of injuries or signs of violence were detected in an initial inspection. All victims died from carbon monoxide poisoning, local media reported, citing police.

The Indian Diplomatic mission in Tbilisi has confirmed that all 12 victims of the recent tragic incident were Indian nationals. In contrast, a statement from Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs indicates a different breakdown: it reported that 11 of the deceased were foreign nationals, while one victim was a Georgian citizen.

According to authorities, the bodies of all victims who were employees of the same Indian restaurant were discovered in the bedrooms located on the second floor of the establishment. This incident has raised concerns and led to increased scrutiny regarding the safety protocols within the restaurant industry in the region.

All individuals who lost their lives were employees of the same Indian restaurant and were discovered deceased in the bedrooms located on the second floor of the facility.

The police have initiated an investigation in accordance with Article 116 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which pertains to the classification of negligent manslaughter.

Initial findings from the investigation indicate that a power generator was positioned in an enclosed area adjacent to the bedrooms. This generator was activated, presumably after the main power supply was interrupted on the evening of Friday.

A forensic medical examination has been scheduled to determine the precise cause of death. Ongoing investigative actions are being conducted with a high level of activity; forensic specialists are present at the scene, and interviews are being held with individuals relevant to the case.
