Eight Maoists were killed in a confrontation between the Naxalites and the security forces on Saturday morning in Bijapur district, Chhattisgarh.

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai confirmed the casualty and reiterated Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah’s resolute stance to eliminate Naxalism by March 21, 2026.

The anti-Maoists began following the information received about the presence of the militants of the `West Bastar division’ of the Maoists in the area, he said.

The engagement between both parties began at 8:30 AM in the forested area under the Gangaloor police station. The Naxalites were fighting against the joint teams of the District Reserve Guard (DRG), Special Task Force (STF), battalion number 222 of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and CRPF’s elite Commando Battalion for Resolute Action’s (CoBRA) number 202 battalion.

The central government’s vow to “end Naxalism” by 2026 came following the Maoist attack on the DRG, by blowing up their vehicle resulting in the death of six DRG jawans and one driver.

The Jawans were returning in a Scorpio following a joint operation, of Dantewada, Narayanpur, and Bijapur. The blast took place on the Bedre-Kutru Road in Bijapur district.

Since January 1, the security forces have launched a crackdown on the militants resulting in the deaths of 48 Maoists including the current fatality.
