New Delhi: In response to heavy rainfall overnight in the national capital, Shri Kuljeet Singh Chahal, Vice Chairperson of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), conducted a comprehensive early morning inspection across key NDMC zones on Thursday.

The visit aimed to evaluate the ground-level response mechanisms, especially focusing on water drainage systems and overall civic infrastructure functioning during the ongoing monsoon season.

Accompanied by senior officials and department heads from Civil Engineering and Public Health Divisions, Shri Chahal surveyed several locations within the NDMC area where waterlogging is typically observed.

The inspection also covered sites equipped with dewatering pumps, which have been strategically placed in vulnerable pockets as a precautionary measure to counter potential water accumulation.

During the review, Shri Chahal expressed satisfaction over the swift and efficient response by NDMC field teams and technical units. “I am pleased to share that the overall situation remains under control.

Only one isolated waterlogging complaint was registered with our Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC), and there have been no reports of tree falls, power outages, or significant service interruptions,” he noted.

He praised the consistent efforts of NDMC staff, engineers, sanitation workers, and frontline employees who have been working tirelessly to ensure uninterrupted civic services despite adverse weather.

“Their dedication reflects NDMC’s commitment to proactive governance and robust monsoon preparedness,” he added.

Highlighting the operational success of monsoon protocols, Shri Chahal stated that the functioning of installed dewatering pumps, pre-cleaning of drains, and the readiness of rapid response teams have collectively helped avert major disruptions.

“It’s the result of months of planning and preparedness that NDMC areas witnessed smooth vehicular and pedestrian movement even during continuous rainfall,” he emphasized.

Reaffirming the council’s long-term mission, he reiterated NDMC’s vision aligned with the broader national development agenda.

“Under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji, we are committed to transforming NDMC into a model of urban resilience and civic efficiency. Viksit Bharat ke liye Viksit NDMC is not just a slogan but a guiding principle for all our actions,” Shri Chahal remarked.

He elaborated on the strategic initiatives undertaken by NDMC to combat the recurring problem of waterlogging in the city’s central zones.

These include the installation of additional pump sets, construction of sumps for better water drainage, development of rainwater harvesting systems, and deployment of trained personnel for quick field response.

“Our target is clear — complete elimination of waterlogging from NDMC jurisdiction,” he asserted.

Shri Chahal emphasized that the municipal body’s forward-looking measures have significantly minimized the impact of monsoon showers on public life and civic operations.

“We are determined to ensure safety, sanitation, and accessibility for all residents, commuters, and visitors during this season,” he added.

The Vice Chairperson also interacted with on-ground staff during his visit, encouraging them to maintain their spirit of public service and remain vigilant throughout the rainy season.

He lauded their round-the-clock efforts and assured full administrative support in maintaining service standards and public safety.

The NDMC’s Integrated Command and Control Centre continues to monitor real-time data, coordinate with field teams, and respond promptly to any emergent civic issues.

With systems in place and coordination mechanisms working seamlessly, the NDMC’s monsoon preparedness plan appears to be functioning effectively as Delhi experiences increased rainfall.

The visit concluded with Shri Chahal reaffirming that NDMC would leave no stone unturned in ensuring a clean, functional, and monsoon-resilient New Delhi.
