Deepika Padukone Joins Global Icons on The Shift’s ‘Women Shaping Culture’ List

Bollywood icon Deepika Padukone has earned a coveted spot on The Shift’s prestigious list of 90+ Women Shaping Culture, joining an international roster that includes cultural powerhouses such as Selena Gomez, Angelina Jolie, Billie Eilish, Amal Clooney, and filmmaker Zoya Akhtar. This recognition not only cements her global influence but also honours her ongoing efforts in championing mental health awareness and emotional well-being.

The list, specially curated in tribute to legendary feminist Gloria Steinem’s 91st birthday, celebrates women from diverse backgrounds who are redefining leadership, creativity, and cultural impact. Deepika’s inclusion signals a milestone in her journey—not only as an actor and producer but also as a vocal advocate for mental wellness.

Reflecting on what success means to her, Deepika shared a deeply personal perspective: “To me, success isn’t just about professional achievements but also about well-being—where mental health and self-care matter as much as discipline, dedication, and determination. I hope to inspire a generation that values patience, balance, consistency, and authenticity.”

This holistic view of success has shaped her public work through the Live Love Laugh Foundation, an initiative she founded in 2015 after publicly speaking about her own struggle with depression. The foundation has since become a pivotal platform in destigmatising mental health discussions in India and globally, conducting awareness programs, collaborating with mental health professionals, and supporting affected individuals.

The Shift’s list serves as a cultural barometer, highlighting women who are creating meaningful change across industries. With Deepika’s advocacy, global reach, and thoughtful use of her platform, her influence extends far beyond the silver screen.

Continuing Her Reign On and Off Screen

While her advocacy work gains international acclaim, Deepika’s cinematic career continues to scale new heights. In a groundbreaking development, she is set to become the first Indian to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2026—a symbolic recognition of her contributions to global entertainment.

On the professional front, Deepika is preparing for a high-octane pan-India action spectacle tentatively titled AA22xA6, directed by Atlee and produced by Sun Pictures. The film marks her first on-screen collaboration with Allu Arjun, and her second partnership with director Atlee, following the success of Jawan. With such a powerhouse cast and crew, the film is already one of the most anticipated releases of the coming year.

In addition to her action-packed future release, Deepika will return in the sequel to Kalki 2898 AD, a mytho-futuristic saga that has captured the audience’s imagination. She will reprise her role as the mother, a key character in the story’s emotional core. According to producers Priyanka and Swapna Dutt, roughly 30–35% of the sequel is already filmed. Director Nag Ashwin has confirmed that the scripting is complete, with production slated to begin in December 2025.

Though the sequel is expected to centre more on Prabhas’s character Karna and his evolving dynamic with Amitabh Bachchan’s Ashwatthama, Deepika’s role remains integral to the unfolding narrative.

A Cultural Force to Be Reckoned With

Whether it’s through global recognition, impactful storytelling, or social advocacy, Deepika Padukone continues to push boundaries. Her inclusion on The Shift’s list highlights the multifaceted nature of modern stardom—where celebrity meets substance, and influence goes hand-in-hand with intention.

By placing mental health at the heart of her message and embracing roles that challenge the norm, Deepika stands as a cultural force who represents the evolving aspirations of women around the world. Her journey—from Bollywood stardom to global leadership—is a testament to resilience, authenticity, and the enduring power of purpose-driven success.

As Deepika continues to shape culture both on-screen and off, she reinforces what it means to be not just a celebrity, but a changemaker for the next generation.
