Bomb Threats Trigger Mass Evacuations in Delhi Schools
New Delhi witnessed another wave of panic on Monday morning after several prominent schools received bomb threats through email. Authorities immediately ordered evacuations, and police, along with bomb disposal squads and fire service officials, rushed to the sites to conduct intensive searches.
According to officials, Delhi Public School (DPS) Dwarka, Modern Convent School, and ShreeRam World School in Sector 10, Dwarka were among the institutions targeted. Students, teachers, and staff were safely evacuated while the premises were combed thoroughly for any suspicious items.
A senior Delhi Police officer confirmed: “All students and staff have been evacuated as a precautionary measure. Search operations are underway.”
Series of Threats Raise Concerns in the Capital
The incident is part of a disturbing trend of repeated bomb threats directed at educational institutions across the national capital in recent months. On July 18, over 50 schools in Delhi were forced to evacuate after receiving similar threats via email. The targeted schools included prestigious institutions like St Xavier’s in Civil Lines, Richmond Global School in Paschim Vihar, Abhinav Public School in Rohini, and The Sovereign School in Rohini.
Earlier in July, St Stephen’s College and St Thomas School in Dwarka were also hit by threats, just a day after three other schools had received hoax messages. In total, at least seven schools were targeted on July 17, marking the third consecutive day of such incidents.
Police investigations later revealed that one of the earlier hoax emails had been sent by a 12-year-old boy from South Delhi, who admitted to doing it as a prank. The child was questioned, counselled, and released to his family.
Security Agencies on High Alert
Given the repeated nature of these threats, security agencies have been maintaining heightened alert levels across the city. Officials confirmed that precautionary evacuations will remain the standard protocol until each threat is fully verified, regardless of whether previous incidents turned out to be hoaxes.
While Monday’s threat is still under investigation, police teams are examining the origin of the emails and have launched a technical probe to track the sender. Cyber units have also been roped in to trace digital footprints.
A Delhi Police spokesperson stated: “Our priority is the safety of children. Even if it turns out to be a hoax, we cannot take any risks.”
Parents and Schools Express Anxiety
The repeated hoax threats have triggered growing anxiety among parents, many of whom have voiced concerns about the psychological toll on children. Frequent evacuations and disruption of classes have left parents worried about both safety and academic continuity.
One parent outside DPS Dwarka said: “It is deeply distressing to send children to school with this constant fear. Authorities must find who is behind these emails and put an end to this.”
Teachers and school administrators have also called for stronger cyber-monitoring measures to prevent such pranks from escalating into large-scale panic.
Political Reactions Add to Debate
The issue has also taken a political turn. Last month, AAP leader and former Delhi Chief Minister Atishi criticised the central government and BJP-led civic administration, arguing that they had failed to ensure safety in schools. She said: “Think of the trauma that children, parents, and teachers would be going through. BJP controls all four engines of governance in Delhi and is yet not able to provide security to our children.”
The BJP, however, has dismissed the criticism, insisting that all necessary measures are being taken and that investigations are ongoing to bring perpetrators to justice.
Investigations Underway
As of now, no explosive materials have been found in Monday’s searches, though authorities have not declared the premises completely secure until operations are concluded. Investigators are working to trace the source of the latest email sent to DPS Dwarka.
Officials reiterated that any individual found responsible for spreading false alarms will face strict action under Indian Penal Code provisions relating to public mischief and obstruction of public servants.
For now, schools remain on alert, and parents have been assured that security will continue to be prioritised as investigations proceed.
