New Delhi: Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana of the Bihar Government on September 26 at 11 a.m. via video conferencing. The ambitious scheme aims to empower women through self-employment opportunities and strengthen their role in Bihar’s socio-economic progress.
As part of the launch, the Prime Minister will transfer an initial grant of ₹10,000 each directly into the bank accounts of 75 lakh women across the state, totaling ₹7,500 crore in financial assistance. This large-scale direct benefit transfer marks one of the most extensive women-centric financial interventions undertaken in Bihar.
Aimed at Building Economic Independence
The Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana has been designed with the vision of making women Aatmanirbhar (self-reliant). By promoting self-employment and livelihood activities, the scheme intends to ensure that women in both rural and semi-urban areas are equipped to contribute actively to household income and the broader economy.
Under the provisions of the programme, one woman from each family in Bihar will be selected as a beneficiary. The initiative prioritizes inclusivity by covering women from diverse social and economic backgrounds.
Beneficiaries will have the flexibility to choose the area of work according to their interest—ranging from agriculture, animal husbandry, tailoring, handicrafts, weaving, and other small-scale enterprises.
Financial Assistance in Phases
The scheme’s financial structure includes an initial grant of ₹10,000 per beneficiary, provided via the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system to ensure transparency and efficiency. In later stages, women who successfully utilize the initial support may become eligible for additional financial aid of up to ₹2 lakh. This phased funding approach is expected to sustain long-term growth and stability of women-led micro-enterprises.
Officials from the Bihar Government have emphasized that the programme will not only help women establish small businesses but also foster community-level economic activity. These resource persons will act as mentors, assisting women in business planning, skill development, and effective utilization of funds.
To strengthen market access, the government has also planned to further develop Gramin Haat-Bazaars across the state. These rural marketplaces will serve as platforms where women entrepreneurs can directly sell their produce and products, thereby enhancing visibility and profitability.
Large-Scale Participation Expected
The launch event on September 26 is being organized as a statewide programme spread across multiple administrative levels—district, block, cluster, and village. More than 1 crore women across Bihar are expected to witness the programme, either physically at local venues or through digital platforms.
Officials have highlighted that the initiative reflects the state’s commitment to women’s empowerment by combining financial inclusion with capacity-building. The emphasis on SHGs and rural marketplaces is seen as a step towards strengthening grassroots participation in economic development.
