India have history on their side, when it comes to a match with Australia after defeating them in back-to-back series in 2018–19 and 2020–21. Now, perhaps history is set to repeat in the Border Gavaskar Trophy.
At the Optus Stadium in Perth on Friday, all eyes were on Bumrah, in absence of Captain Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill in Perth. The ground witnessed a total of 17 wickets falling on the first day. Australia failed to hold up against Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj as the hosts finished the day with 67/7, trailing by another 83 runs in response to India’s 150 all out.
India have managed to take a healthy lead of 46 runs. Bumrah became the first pacer from India to take 50 wickets in a single WTC cycle after returning 5 for 30. K L Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal gave the Indian second innings a strong start, enabling the team to take a lead of more than 150 runs at lunch time.
