Today MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that the BCCI has issued a statement which has stated that there are security concerns. Hence the Indian team will not go there. Earlier the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) had conveyed that Team India will not visit Pakistan for the Champions Trophy.
Amid tensions brewing between the two countries, the Champions Trophy, which is scheduled for February–March 2025, has turned into a divisive topic. Since 2008, when the Mumbai terror attacks occurred, India has not visited Pakistan. The BCCI has suggested a hybrid format in which some matches would still take place in Pakistan and India’s matches would be played at a neutral location, most likely in the United Arab Emirates. The Pakistan Cricket Board, or PCB, has strongly disagreed with this proposal, claiming it gives India preferential treatment.
On the other hand, Rashtriya Janata Party (RJD) Tejashwi Yadav stoked a controversy in this regard. He said that if Pm can have biryani there then, why Cricketers are stopped from playing in Pakistan. Former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav questioned the government’s stand on this.
