Cyclone ‘Fengal’ To Hit Chennai, Heavy Rain Lashes

Cyclone Fengal is expected to make landfall in the coastal region by this evening, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). Heavy rains and gusty winds battered several parts of northern Tamil Nadu on Saturday, disrupting normalcy.

Few measures have been taken to provide relief and lessen the damage. Six relief facilities located in the districts of Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam have taken in 471 individuals from 164 families. According to the state government, 2,229 relief camps are ready to be used if needed, and 4,153 boats have been hauled back to shore in accordance with the alert. People are advised to work from home and avoid going out.

Officials have urged people to stay indoors as Cyclone Fengal is predicted to make landfall today afternoon close to Puducherry. Winds of up to 90 km/h are predicted during the storm.
