US President Donald Trump picked Kashyap ‘Kash’ Patel to serve as FBI Director. Mr. Patel is an Indian-American and well-known Trump supporter, a former US defence department chief of staff and ally during the first Trump administration. In the final weeks of the Trump Administration in 2017, Patel, then 44, was the chief of staff to the Acting US Secretary of Defense.
Patel “played a pivotal role in uncovering the Russia, Russia Hoax, standing as an advocate for truth, accountability, and the Constitution,” Trump wrote Saturday night in a social media post. The choice is consistent with Trump’s professed desire for vengeance against alleged enemies and his belief that the government’s intelligence and law enforcement apparatuses need to undergo a fundamental overhaul.
Praising Patel, Trump stated that Kash has served as Chief of Staff at the Department of Defense, Deputy Director of National Intelligence, and Senior Director for Counterterrorism at the National Security Council. Kash has also tried over 60 jury trials. He is of hope that Kash in FBI, will be an effort to strengthen the President’s control of the intelligence community.
Trump announced that Patel would be working under Attorney General Pam Bondi. Though Patel’s selection could only be confirmed after it is passed by the Republican-led Senate.
