The fourth edition of the India-Malaysia Joint Military Exercise HARIMAU SHAKTI started today at Bentong camp in the Pahang district of Malaysia. The planned dates for the exercise are December 2 to 15, 2024.
A Battalion of MAHAR Regiment is representing an Indian contingent of 78 people. 123 members of the Royal Malaysian Regiment are representing the Malaysian contingent. An annual training exercise called Joint Exercise HARIMAU SHAKTI is alternately held in Malaysia and India. The most recent edition took place in Meghalaya, India’s Umroi cantonment in November 2023.
The Joint Exercise’s objective is to improve both sides’ combined military capacity to conduct counterinsurgency operations in jungle areas in accordance with Chapter VII of the UN Mandate. Operations in a jungle will be the main focus of the exercise.
There will be two stages to the activity. Cross-training between the two Armies will be the main focus of the first phase, which will include lectures, drill displays, and practice in jungle environments. In the last stage, both armies will actively participate in a simulated exercise in which soldiers will perform a number of exercises, such as Occupation of Harbor, Anti-MT Ambush, Recce Patrol, Ambush, and Attack on Area Taken Over by Terrorists.
Through Exercise HARIMAU SHAKTI, all parties will be able to exchange best practices for joint operations tactics, techniques, and procedures. It will make it easier for the two forces to create camaraderie, friendship, and interoperability. Additionally, the Joint Exercise will strengthen defense cooperation, strengthening the two friendly countries’ bilateral ties.
