Bangladesh Summons Indian Envoy Over Diplomatic Breach In Agartala

Today, Bangladesh called on the Indian high commissioner, Pranay Verma, to Dhaka regarding the intrusion at the Bangladesh assistant high commission in Agartala, as reported. Pranay Verma reached the foreign affairs office 4:00 PM (Bangladesh Local Time) on Tuesday, where he was requested to meet with the acting foreign secretary, M Riaz Hamidullah.

Agartala in the northeastern state of Tripura in India bordering Bangladesh, thousands of people took out a massive demonstration near Dhaka’s mission on Monday against the arrest of Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Das as well as attacks on the Hindu community in Bangladesh.

The protesters reportedly barged into the Assistant High Commission of Bangladesh and allegedly resorted to vandalism, According to BBC Bangla, around 150 individuals invaded the mission, removed the Bangladesh flag, shredded it, and damaged several items while a delegation from the samity was inside the compound to deliver a memorandum.

three sub-inspectors were suspended on Tuesday in action against the incident of breach of the premises of the Bangladesh consulate in Agartala by a group of people on December 2. “Given to the security circumstances, all visa and consular services at the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala will be halted”, Said Bangladesh Assistant High Commission.
