Today PM Narendra Modi said that “Chandigarh has become the first city in Indian history to adopt three criminal laws”.
Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) is designed to strengthen the spirit of “people by the people for the people,” which forms the foundation of democracy, woven with ideas of equality, harmony, etc., ensuring that every citizen is equal in the eyes of the law.
Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) ensures citizen safety and security, cyber security, disaster management, and an emergency response system.
Bharatiya Saksha Adhiniyam (Indian Witness Protection Act) protects witnesses and their families, safeguards identities, and provides safe houses, ensuring anonymity and compensation.
These new laws are designed to focus on fairness, making the legal system more modern and efficient. The adoption of these laws is being seen as a mark of a new era in the Indian judicial system and sets a precedent for other cities to follow.
