Rahul Gandhi, leader of opposition has made a recent remark on the farmer’s protest for a legally guaranteed Minimum Support Price, farm loan waiver, pension for farmers, no hike in electricity tariffs, and withdrawal of police cases.
He has expressed his deep sympathy and solidarity towards the farmers, he said, “Farmers want to come to Delhi to present their demands and express their grievances before the government. Using tear gas shells against them and attempting to stop them in various ways is condemnable. The government must take their demands and problems seriously.”
The plight of the farmers can be gauged from the fact that today, every hour, a farmer in the country is forced to commit suicide. The country has not forgotten the sacrifice of over 700 farmers during the previous farmer protests due to the gross insensitivity of the Modi government.
We understand the pain of farmers and support their demands. The government must immediately act on demands such as the legal guarantee of MSP, ensuring MSP at 1.5 times the comprehensive cost of farming as per the Swaminathan Commission’s recommendations, and loan waivers, among others. Only when the farmers are prosperous will the country be prosperous!”
