The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said that all 75 Indians from Syria evacuated safely and successfully, just two days after rebel forces overthrew President Bashar al-Assad’s authoritarian government. MEA declared that the operation had succeeded and that the evacuees had crossed Lebanon safely. They would shortly take commercial aircraft back to India.
India’s embassies in Damascus and Beirut coordinated the operation, prioritizing the safety of its citizens in the conflict-ridden nation. “The Government of India accords the highest priority to the safety and security of Indian nationals abroad,” the statement added.
Additionally, the MEA asked Indian citizens still in Syria to keep in touch with the Embassy in Damascus for updates. They were instructed to contact them by email at hoc.damascus@mea.gov.in or by calling the emergency helpline at +963 993385973.
