Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, met with the family members of a 19-year-old girl who was reportedly gang-raped and died while receiving treatment in Delhi in September 2020.
Rahul Gandhi slammed the BJP administration and said that they failed to keep commitments given to the family. He said that the victim’s family is living “in fear”. He spent around 35 minutes with the family at their house before departing without interacting with the media who had gathered in the area for his visit.
“Today, I went to Hathras and met the family of the victim of the humiliating and unfortunate tragedy that happened four years ago. “What they said during the meeting deeply shook me,” Gandhi said.
“The entire family remains under a veil of terror. They are being regarded as criminals. They cannot move freely because they are continuously monitored by firearms and cameras”, he said.
The Congress leader further said that the BJP government’s pledges to them had not been fulfilled to yet. “Neither have they been given a government job nor has the promise of shifting them to another place been fulfilled,” according to him.
