Russia conducted a large aerial strike against Ukraine on Friday, launching 93 cruise and ballistic missiles and approximately 200 drones, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. One of the most severe attacks on the nation’s energy industry since Russia’s full-scale invasion almost three years ago, he said.

Zelenskyy said that 81 missiles were destroyed by Ukrainian defenses, including 11 cruise missiles that were intercepted earlier this year by F-16 planes provided by partners in the West.  He reaffirmed his appeal for international cooperation against Russian President Vladimir Putin, claiming that Russia’s assaults are frightening millions of people.

The world needs to react strongly with a major strike and reprisal. According to Zelenskyy, “there is no other way to prevent terror,”

However, it’s unclear how the fight will play out next year. Donald Trump, the president-elect who will take office next month, has pledged to put an end to the conflict and raised questions about whether crucial US military assistance for Kyiv would continue.

According to the Defense Ministry in Moscow, the Russian military targeted vital fuel and energy facilities in Ukraine that support the military industrial complex’s operation with long-range precision missiles and drones.

According to the statement, the operation was a response to a Ukrainian attack on a Russian air base on Wednesday that used Army Tactical Missile Systems, or ATACMs, provided by the United States.
