India, Philippines Deepen Maritime Security Cooperation, Boost Naval Ties

In a significant move to boost the relationship between India and Philippines held their first-ever Maritime Dialogue in Manila on December 13, 2024. This event marked 75 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The Indian delegation, led by Ms. Muanpuii Saiawi, Joint Secretary , Disarmament and International Security Affairs Ministry of External Affairs and the Philippine delegation, led by Mr. Marshall Louis Alferez, Assistant Secretary, Maritime Ocean Affairs Office, Department of Foreign Affairs, had fruitful discussions on maritime challenges and cooperation.

Both sides agreed to work together to promote a rules-based order in the maritime domain, particularly the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. They also discussed cooperation in areas such as maritime industry, ocean economy, and disaster relief.

The next round of the dialogue is scheduled to take place in New Delhi in 2025, further strengthening India-Philippines maritime ties.
