Today Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “Today, we mark the 100th birth anniversary of the legendary Raj Kapoor, a visionary filmmaker, actor, and the eternal showman! His genius transcended generations, leaving an indelible mark on Indian and global cinema.”
Reminiscing Raj Kapoor’s passion from a young age Modi affirmed his films to be a blend of artistry, emotion, and even social commentary reflective aspirations and struggles of common citizens. He mentioned that the late filmmaker’s works highlight diverse themes with ease and excellence and its characters and melodies are unforgettable and resonate with the audience till now. He also lauded the music of Raj Kapoor’s films.
Modi accredited Raj Kapoor of not being only a filmmaker but also a cultural ambassador. Honouring the late filmmaker he wrote, “Shri Raj Kapoor was not just a filmmaker but a cultural ambassador who took Indian cinema to the global stage. Generations of filmmakers and actors can learn so much from him. I once again pay tributes to him and recall his contribution to the creative world.”
Modi also met the Kapor family earlier on Tuesday when the latter went to invite him to the Raj Kapoor 100 film festival.
