Haryana police forces deployed at the Shambhu border post fired tear gas shells and used water cannons to scatter the farmers who were protesting and trying to reach Delhi today. A few farmers were injured in the tear gas shelling and taken to a nearby hospital in ambulances stationed at the protest site. Protesting farmers made their third attempt to march on the Nation’s Capital.

The Haryana Security Forces prompted the action to stop a group of farmers (Jatha) of 101 farmers who had started their foot march to Delhi from the Shambhu protest site on the Punjab-Haryana border shortly after noon today, approached the barricades erected. Farmers, however, insisted on ongoing Delhi and urged the security guards to let them. The Police cleared them earlier too so the permission will only be granted in approval.

A legal guarantee of the minimum support price (MSP) for their crops is one of the many demands the farmers are putting on the Center. The farmers who are members of Kisan Mazdoor Morcha and Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) have been advocating for a legislative guarantee for MSP. To resolve their concerns, they have also been urging the Center to start discussions with them.

Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) prohibits the unlawful gathering of five or more people in the district, and the Ambala district administration has previously enforced this prohibition.
