National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval is scheduled to visit China tomorrow December 17 to hold Special Representative (SR) level talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. The discussions aim to address the long-standing tensions along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

This marks the first SR-level dialogue since the Galwan Valley clash in 2020 and the first such meeting since December 2019. The two sides are working to firm up dates for the visit and the NSA could visit Beijing for talks under the mechanism of Special Representatives on the border issue by the end of the year or early in January, the people said on condition of anonymity.

The latest indication of improved ties was marked by the 22nd Special Representatives meeting in New Delhi in December 2019, led by Ajit Doval on the Indian side and Wang Yi representing China. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar reaffirmed India’s commitment to diplomatic talks aimed at reaching a viable boundary settlement framework through bilateral engagement.
