In 2023 India gave Sri Lanka $4 billion to help it get back on its feet. Making India the first nation to offer financing assurance to kick-start the IMF process.

India and Sri Lanka have also agreed to work together in the future in areas like transportation, energy, and education. They plan to build new ports and start ferry services again, also helping students and teachers to learn from each other.
