The rescue effort for Sunita “Suni” Williams and Barry “Butch” Wilmore, two stranded NASA astronauts, has encountered yet another obstacle. SpaceX had previously planned for the two to exit from the International Space Station, but their patience is being put to the test.
The rescue expedition was originally scheduled for spring 2025, however it is now anticipated that they will remain for about 10 months instead of the original one-week mission.
Since taking off in the Boeing Starliner on June 5, the NASA team has been trapped in space. Their troubled ship, which has now landed on Earth without the astronauts, has caused multiple delays in their return journey, despite the fact that their initial interplanetary expedition called for a projected one-week mission to the ISS.
After a tussle between Boeing and the US space agency, NASA finally declared the two’s return on the Starliner to be dangerous. Following an apparently never-ending string of problems, like leaks and thruster failures, Elon Musk’s SpaceX provided Suni and Butch with a lifeline. Two seats on the Crew Dragon capsule were made available for the space heroes to hitch a trip back home in February after the billionaire tech titan’s corporation altered its Crew-9 mission. The two won’t return to Earth until the end of March, according to the most recent postponement disclosure. It’s possible that the wait will last until early April.
