National Security Advisor of India, Shri Ajit Doval met Mr. Wang Yi, a Member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Beijing on Wednesday for the 23rd Meeting of the Special Representatives (SRs) of India and China.

Among the six major decisions taken in the meeting, the resumption of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is one of them. This marks the first meeting of the SRs since frictions had emerged on the India-China border areas in 2020 which met in accordance with the decision taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping during the recent meeting in Kazan.

While evaluating the solution to border issues between the two countries both reasserted the continuation of the implementation and believed that border issues should be handled in a way that it does not affect the bilateral relations. In order to promote the healthy and stable development of bilateral relations and to maintain peace and tranquility in the border areas steps would be taken by both sides.

Both sides confirmed their allegiance in seeking a fair, reasonable, and mutually acceptable package solution to the boundary issue according to the political guidelines agreed by them in 2005 and to take constructive actions towards this step.

On assessing the situation at the border both sides have agreed to improve the management and control rules in the border area, strengthen the building of confidence-building measures, and achieve sustainable peace and tranquility on the border.

Both sides believe in resuming the cross-border cooperation and exchanges including the resumption of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, data sharing on trans-border rivers, and Nathula border trade.

Both sides require the China-India Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on Border Affairs(WMCC) to make sure to follow up implementation of the SRs meeting while agreeing to strengthen the construction of the special special representatives meeting mechanism to enhance coordination and cooperation in diplomatic and military negotiations.

Both sides agreed to hold a new round of SR meetings in India next year, with the specific timing to be decided through diplomatic channels.
