The number of fatalities from the gas tanker accident in Jaipur, Rajasthan increased to 14 today. With 28 patients in the hospital, several of them are in critical condition, the death toll is probably going to increase.
According to a local account, the event had such an impact that up to 75% of the people involved suffered burn injuries, and the fire raged for about eight hours.
The terrible incident happened on Friday when a truck and an LPG tanker collided, igniting a huge fire that engulfed a section of the Jaipur-Ajmer route. In addition to instantly killing people, the collision set 37 cars on fire.
The gas leak quickly spread the fire, making it impossible for anyone in surrounding cars to escape. People were spotted hurrying and removing clothing that was on fire. According to reports, the blast was so powerful that people could hear it up to ten kilometers away.
The principal of SMS Medical College, Dr. Deepak Maheshwari, informed in the early hours that 14 persons had died in the tragedy thus far before DCP Kumar confirmed it.

We are deeply pained by the deaths in the tragedy on the Jaipur-Ajmer highway in Rajasthan,” the Prime Minister’s Office wrote in a post on X. Sending condolences to people who have lost a loved one. The PM further declared that the families of the deceased would receive Rs. 2 lakh and the injured Rs. 50,000 as ex-gratia.
Earlier, SMS Hospital Superintendent Dr. Sushil Kumar Bhati said that seven people had died and 10 to 12 others had been injured. He noted that over 60 percent of the victims sustained burns, with around 28 patients admitted to the hospital, six of whom are on ventilators.
