Union minister Hardeep Singh Puri’s allegations regarding a 2009 event in which he claimed on addition of US billionaire George Soros in an assignation list for a regale in New York were denied by Congress Member of Parliament( MP) Shashi Tharoor on December 21.

According to Tharoor, the Thiruvananthapuram MP, he and Minister Puri have different recollections of the regale that Puri hosted in New York during his term as Indian Ambassador to the US.

“Our remembrances differ, dear Hardeep. There were several guests present at your well-attended regale whom I had no way met ahead. But I’m not expostulating; it’s entirely applicable that on such an occasion the Indian Ambassador should have a guest-list gauging a wide sampling of influential transnational and original opinion. I see no reason for either of us to disavow our connections with anyone at the earlier stages of our lives in New York or Geneva, ” Tharoor said in a post before.

Puri responded back to this Tharoor post indicating that the Congress MP didn’t show the whole picture. Puri contended that it was Tharoor who gave the list of companies for the regale.

According to Puri, it became apparent after the fact that Soros was invited since he was one of the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation’s benefactors. At that time Tharoor was the State External Affairs Minister wanted to meet him for that reason, he added.

Hungarian-American barricade fund director Soros, now 92, is now a philanthropist. After shifting to London in 1947, he attended the London School of Economics to study gospel, earning a Master of Science in Philosophy in 1954.

Both the MPs have been targeting each other. Throughout the current Winter Session, the Congress party has been demonstrating both within and outside of Parliament against the Adani bribery allegations.

Top BJP politicians have been attacking Soros since the Adani- Hindenburg contestation in February of this time, especially after he claimed that the problems facing the Adani company will” significantly weaken Modi’s stranglehold on India’s civil government.”
