After an arrest warrant was filed against him for alleged fraud involving Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) deposits, former Indian Cricket Player Robin Uthappa finally spoke up. In defense of himself, Uthappa said that he had left his position as director “several years ago.

Due to his commitment as a professional cricketer, TV presenter, and commentator, he had already been occupied. He said, “I had no role in the company’s day-to-day operations and did not hold an executive position during his time there.” He added that during 2018-19, he was appointed as a director because of his financial contributions to them in the form of a loan.

Regrettably, these businesses didn’t pay back the money he lent them, so he started legal action, which is still pending. As a result, a few years ago, he also resigned from his directorship.

When the Provident Fund authorities sent letters requesting payment of dues, his legal team responded. Despite this, the Provident Fund authorities have continued with proceedings, and his legal advisors will take the necessary steps to resolve this matter in the coming days.

Shadakshara Gopala Reddy, the Regional Provident Fund commissioner, issued the arrest warrant on December 21 and ordered Uthappa to pay Rs 23,36,602 (about USD 28,500) in unpaid debts.

The commissioner has requested that Uthappa, who is named as the director of Centaurus Lifestyle Brands Pvt. Ltd. in Indiranagar, Bengaluru, appear before them by December 27, 2024.

Uthappa urged the media to report the whole truth and confirm the authenticity of the information being shared.
