On Monday, Police searched the home of Samaresh Biswas, the leader of a fake passport ring, in North 24 Parganas, West Bengal, they found numerous counterfeit documents, including voter cards and Aadhaar. Biswas is accused of being the brains behind a large-scale passport fraud scheme.
According to police, they also discovered lists with names, phone numbers, and addresses as well as a number of forms used to create phony passports. “The number of passports issued with these documents will be ascertained by verifying them. According to a senior police officer, Biswas assisted individuals in crossing the border from Bangladesh by creating fictitious identity cards for them in addition to producing phony passports.
Before Biswas’s arrest, Kolkata Police had detained a contract postal worker about the counterfeit passport scheme. Investigations have shown that Biswas was involved in both creating phony passports and using falsified identity cards to enable unlawful border crossings from Bangladesh. This comes after Biswas was detained and a postal department employee suspected of participation was taken into custody by Kolkata Police.
