Elon Musk, a tech tycoon, has planned to build a new metropolis on the SpaceX Starbase property close to Boca Chica in South Texas.
SpaceX wrote to local authorities on December 11 asking them to take action to incorporate the location as a city. SpaceX has submitted a petition for this project, asking to establish Starbase, a separate municipality in coastal South Texas, to serve as the location of the company’s rocket launch facilities. If the proposed city is approved, the first mayor is expected to be the SpaceX security manager.
The concept is not wholly original. Musk wrote, “Creating the city of Starbase, Texas,” on social media in 2021 without providing any further background or explanation. Musk stated earlier this year that he intends to relocate SpaceX’s headquarters from Hawthorne, California, to Boca Chica, which is near the US-Mexico border.
