The BJP president of Tamil Nadu whipped himself to protest over his allegations of the DMK government for failing to protect the students of Anna University in Chennai on Friday.
Annamalai claimed that the DMK government and police leaked the victim’s personal information and endangered her dignity, and called it a “shameful” act that showcased the administration’s inefficiency.
The BJP leader announced on Thursday that he would abstain from wearing footwears until the DMK is not thrown out of power, he condemned the lack of CCTV surveillance at the University and raised questions on the use of Nirbhaya fund which is granted for women safety.
The FIR disclosed the victim’s identity and painted her in a poor light. This is a disgrace, and the DMK government must take responsibility,” he said, striking at the law minister S Regupathy for defending the state’s actions.
Annamalai also reprimanded the police for their ineffectiveness which caused mishandling of the case and asked for the removal of the Chennai police commissioner and the deputy commissioner. Declaring an end to public protests that often result in arrests, he urged BJP cadres to protest at their homes.
The BJP leader further proclaimed the plans to observe a 48-day fast and visit the six Arupadai Veedu (Lord Muruga’s six abodes) to “complain to Murugan” about the state’s rotting governance.
