The Delhi Traffic Police has issued a traffic advisory ahead of the state funeral of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, scheduled to take place at Nigambodh Ghat on Saturday, December 28. The funeral procession will commence from the AICC headquarters at 9:30 am, with the last rites being performed at 11:45 am with full State honors.

Traffic Restrictions and Diversions

To ensure a smooth and secure passage for the funeral procession, the Delhi Traffic Police has outlined several traffic restrictions and diversions on key routes in the national capital. These include:

  • Diversion points: Raja Ram Kohli Marg, Rajghat Red Light, Signature Bridge, and Yudhister Setu.
  • Restricted roads: Ring Road (Mahatma Gandhi Marg), Nishad Raj Marg, Boulevard Road, SPM Marg, Lothian Road, and Netaji Subhash Marg (from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm).

Advisory for Commuters

Commuters are advised to avoid the location of the parade and the restricted roads. Those heading to Old Delhi Railway Station, ISBT, Red Fort, Chandni Chowk, and Tis Hazari Court are recommended to depart early to account for any delays. The public is also encouraged to use public transport to reduce traffic congestion.

Manmohan Singh’s Legacy

Manmohan Singh, the 13th Prime Minister of India, passed away on Thursday at the age of 92 due to age-related medical conditions. He was a renowned economist and architect of India’s economic reforms, serving as Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014. His legacy continues to be celebrated, and his state funeral is expected to be attended by dignitaries from foreign countries, VIPs, and the general public.
