Following the ongoing attacks on the minority in Bangladesh, 17 houses of the Christian Tripura community were torched on Christmas Eve.

The incident occurred at Notun Tongjhiri Tripura Para in Sarai Union of Lama Upazila at 12:30 am on Wednesday. The natives at this time had gone to a nearby village to celebrate Christmas and offer prayers there was no Church in the vicinity.

The Tripura community had been living in the area for generations but had to vacate the place a few years ago due to the area being leased out to the wife of a police official during the Awami League regime. Following the dissolution of the Awami League government the community returned and rebuilt their homes.

The officials arrived at the scene of the incident and conducted raids to catch the malefactor. FIR has been filed. The name of former Inspector General of Police, Benazir Ahmed has surfaced regarding this matter. Further, four individuals namely Stephen Tripura, Masainia Tripura, Joachim Tripura, and Md Ibrahim have also been detained.
