An Air Canada flight made a harrowing landing at Halifax Stanfield International Airport on Sunday, skidding down the runway and catching fire after touching down with a broken landing gear. Fortunately, there were no immediate reports of casualties.

The incident occurred just hours after a devastating plane crash in South Korea, where a Boeing 737 caught fire on landing at Muan airport, resulting in the deaths of all but two passengers.

The Air Canada flight was traveling from St. John’s to Halifax when the incident occurred. The plane, carrying an undisclosed number of passengers, suffered a landing gear failure, causing it to skid down the runway and catch fire.

Emergency services responded quickly, and all passengers were safely evacuated. The cause of the landing gear failure is currently under investigation.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of aviation safety, coming on the heels of the tragic plane crash in South Korea. The Jeju Air plane, carrying 181 passengers, exploded after landing at Muan airport, resulting in the deaths of 179 people.

Authorities are investigating the cause of both incidents, with preliminary reports suggesting that the Jeju Air plane suffered a malfunction in its landing gear after a bird strike, causing it to veer off the runway and collide with a fence.
