In an attempt to combat illegal migration and strengthen border security, suspected people smugglers would be facing severe curbs under new laws in Britain as per the British government. These limitations will include travel bans, social media blackouts, and phone usage restrictions.

The British government is set to strengthen law enforcement policies to dismantle organized immigration crime networks and the gangs involved in this. Interior minister Yvette Cooper, emphasizing the government-led ‘plan for change’ policy described border security as its foundation.

According to the Refugee Council Charity, a 25% spike in illegal crossing has been reported in the UK with over 36,800 people making the dangerous crossing. It led to around 69 deaths over the year, more than the deaths combined between 2019 and 2023 in attempting to cross the borders.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer, is focussed on tackling illegal migration and has tightened control on gangs smuggling people across the English channel. Immediate actions to disrupt and deter suspected serious crime are being taken by the planned interim serious crime prevention orders (SCPO).
