Prime Minister Narendra Modi has continued his annual tradition of sending a ceremonial chadar to the revered Ajmer Sharif Dargah, honoring the 13th-century Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti. This gesture, according to Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, reflects Modi’s deep respect for India’s rich spiritual heritage and the enduring message of harmony and compassion.
The chadar, symbolizing devotion and respect, will be offered on Modi’s behalf during the Urs of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti, an annual commemoration that draws devotees from across the country and the world. Rijiju is expected to hand over the chadar at the dargah on January 4.
This marks the 11th time Modi has participated in this tradition, having sent a chadar to the shrine every year since assuming office as Prime Minister. Last year, Union Minister Smriti Irani and Jamal Siddiqui, national president of BJP minority morcha, presented the chadar on Modi’s behalf during the 812th Urs.
The Ajmer Sharif Dargah is one of India’s most revered Sufi shrines, attracting millions of devotees annually. The Urs, which commenced on December 28, 2024, is observed with great reverence, showcasing the significance of communal harmony in contemporary Indian society.
