Hooghly has come into the limelight in the fake passport case. Two youths were detained by the police from Singur. Accused of forging the required documents for the passport.
As per the sources, the police of Burdwan Police Station caught two people named Anirban Samanta from the Ganderpukur area of Singur in Hooghly and Ganesh Chakraborty from Nanda in Singur on Friday night.
Despite this, the families of the accused claimed that their son is not engaged in any fraudulent gang. Neighbors and Anirban’s mother asserted that his son had a good reputation in the society. Apart from teaching, he also engaged in the potato business. He made PAN cards for many.
Meanwhile, Ganesh’s mother claimed that she was not aware of what her son used to do. She said that she knew her son worked as an insurance company agent; other than that, she didn’t know anything. She affirmed that her son can’t do anything bad.
Police have located two youngsters from Singur from Swarup Roy, a suspect in a passport fraud ring in East Burdwan. Police are investigating how the accused youngsters from Singur are related.
Several people have been detained by the Special Investigation Team, or SIT, of Lalbazar on allegations of being part of a fake passport ring. Samaresh Biswas, a resident of Kazipara in Barasat, North 24 Parganas, and his son Ripon Biswas, two post office employees, Taraknath Das and Deepak Mondal, residents of the same district, along with others, were arrested.
It doesn’t stop here; a former SI of Kolkata Police was also arrested by the police on Friday in a connected case. Abdul Hai, 61, a resident of North 24 Parganas, was working in the passport department of Kolkata Police.
Police have disclosed that more than 70 people from this state have made it abroad using fake passports. The investigation into the case is bringing about one arrest after another.
