A principal of a private school in Dhanbad district, Jharkhand is facing scrutiny following allegations that she ordered 80 female students in class 10 to remove their shirts during a celebration, prompting an official inquiry into the incident. The event, which occurred on Friday at a well-known institution in Digwadih, has raised serious concerns among parents and local authorities.
According to reports, the students were celebrating “pen day” after completing their examinations by writing messages on each other’s shirts. However, the principal reportedly disapproved of the celebration and instructed the girls to take off their shirts, despite their pleas for an apology. The students were subsequently sent home wearing only their blazers, without any shirts underneath.
The situation came to light when several parents approached Dhanbad Deputy Commissioner (DC) Madhvi Mishra to express their outrage over the principal’s actions. They described the incident as humiliating and inappropriate, particularly given the age of the students involved.
In response to the complaints, DC Mishra stated that the administration is taking the matter very seriously. “We have spoken to some of the affected girls and their guardians. A committee has been formed to investigate the incident thoroughly,” she said. The committee will include the sub-divisional magistrate, the district education officer, the district social welfare officer, and the sub-divisional police officer.
Local MLA Ragini Singh joined the parents in lodging their complaints at the DC’s office, labeling the principal’s actions as “shameful and unfortunate.” Singh emphasized the need for accountability and appropriate action against any misconduct.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage among the community, with many calling for a review of the school’s policies and the principal’s conduct.
