External Affairs Minister (EAM) Jaishankar, who represented India, said he was “privileged” to serve as Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s special envoy. He was seated in the first row with other notable international leaders at the inauguration ceremony of Donald Trump as US President.
Jaishankar was spotted sitting next to Daniel Noboa, the President of Ecuador. At the occasion, Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong and Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya sat two rows back. QUAD, which also includes the US and India, includes both Japan and Australia.
“It is a great honor to represent India at the oath-taking ceremony of Trump and JD Vance as the Vice President,” Jaishankar tweeted.
According to reports on Monday, Jaishankar also brought a letter from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Trump. According to them, the External Affairs Minister’s attendance at the presidential inauguration is consistent with India’s custom of sending special envoys to witness the swearing-in of heads of state and government.
As the 47th President of the United States, PM Modi welcomed his “dear friend” Trump on his oath of office and expressed his eagerness to collaborate with him.
PM Modi, who shared camaraderie with Trump during his first term, congratulated him on his historic inauguration as the 47th President of the US. The PM said he looks forward to working closely together once again to benefit both countries and shape a better future for the world.
