A trial court judge in Sealdah criticized hospital officials, including former Principal Sandeep Gosh, in his decision in the RG Kar rape and murder case on Monday for attempting to conceal the victim’s death as suicide in order to escape responsibility.
Judge Anirban Das also questioned the Kolkata Police’s initial investigation of the case, pointing out some police officials’ actions in the initial days. Without a doubt, attempts were made to portray the death as suicidal from the perspective of any authority in order to spare the hospital administration any repercussions.
According to the case file, the authorities’ alleged “illegal dream” was not realized since the junior doctors objected and gave the principal a memorandum. The police then began their investigation, but it took too long and was most likely the cause of the victim’s parents’ inability to see their daughter.
The judge condemned the attitude of the RG Kar Hospital. Judge Das questioned why the FIR in the case was registered after 11:30pm when the incident was reported on the morning of August 9 last year. He also “noted with surprise” that the process of seizure and starting of the unnatural death case was noted in the GD book after 11:30pm.
The case is in regard to a 31-year-old medical student who was raped and killed. On August 9, her body was discovered in the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital seminar room.
