The US President Donald Trump stated that he has utilized the program and that he loves very competent people entering the nation, indicating that he is open to all sides of the debate regarding the H-1B foreign guest workers’ visa.

He said that he like both sides of the argument, but also like very competent people coming into country, even if that involves them training and helping other people that may not have the qualifications they do during a joint press conference with Softbank CEO Masayoshi Son, Oracle CTO Larry Ellison, and Open AI CEO Sam Altman at the White House on Tuesday.

Trump’s comments on the topic coincide with statements made by some of his close associates, such as Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, who have defended the H-1B visa program since it permits skilled tech workers to enter the US. Nonetheless, a number of other pro-President supporters have also criticized the visa, claiming that it is causing job losses for Americans.

Trump added in other statements during the news conference on Tuesday that they want competent people coming into his country and he his quite familiar with the H-1B program. He wll make use of the application. They must have the best staff, including wine specialists and excellent waiters.

“We want competent people coming into our country. And H-1B, I know the programme very well. I use the programme. Maître d’, wine experts, even waiters, high-quality waiters — you’ve got to get the best people.

People like Larry, he needs engineers, Masa also needs them. They need engineers like nobody’s ever needed them,” Trump said.

Trump stated that therefore they need to bring in excellent personnel. By doing that, he said they are growing businesses, which benefits everyone. He said that he agrees with both viewpoints, but really believes that they must allow excellent, highly qualified individuals to enter the nation. And the H-1B program is how they accomplish it.
