A retired Army jawan in Hyderabad who worked as a security guard in a defense facility is accused of killing his wife on January 15 and attempting to hide the murder by chopping the body, cooking it in a pressure cooker, grinding the bones with a pestle.

He cooked the meat and bones for three days, then he put them in a sack and then disposed of the remains in a lake. Victim Puttavenkata Madhavi, 35, was reported missing on January 18 following a questioning by her relatives of suspect Gurumurthy regarding her whereabouts.

Madhavi’s parents filed a missing person’s case at the Meerpet police station. He said that after a fight with him a few days prior about going to a relative’s place, she stormed out of the house.

After being brought to the Meerpet police station for interrogation, Gurumurthy allegedly confessed to the murder in a fit of rage.

Police had not located the victim’s remains in the Meerpet Lake where Gurumurthy says he threw a bag containing crushed body parts, until late Wednesday. According to a police officer, a dog squad and club teams have been sent in for a more thorough search.

The family resides in Jillelaguda, Hyderabad, where Gurumurthy married Madhavi approximately 13 years ago. On the day of the alleged incident, the suspect’s sister was being visited by the couple’s two children.

According to a police officer, he later made up the missing drama and told her parents. Gurumurthy will be detained and the case will be changed to murder in a few days.

Police were still investigating it as a “missing person case” because no proof of the alleged murder had been discovered, according to Meerpet SHO K Nagaraju.
