US President Donald Trump fulfilled his promise to carry out mass deportations, Mexico set up expansive tents on the US border on Wednesday. In Ciudad Juárez, cranes raised metal frames for tent shelters in an empty lot near the El Paso, Texas, border.

The tents set up for Mexican deportees were only the first stage of a much larger operation, which officials would scale up if the number of migrants assembling near the border continued to rise.

He proposed that migrants from other nations who were expelled from the US be moved to Mexico City or the southern parts of the country.

Nogales, Mexico, which is near Nogales, Arizona, declared that it will construct shelters in a gymnasium and on soccer fields. Similar initiatives have also been started by the border cities of Matamoros and Piedras Negras.

At a border crossing in Tijuana, Mexico, on Tuesday night, one man shouted to journalists that he was being deported in a group that was arrested that morning in farm fields near Denver.

According to another man, he was part of a gang that was imported from Oregon. Each person used a tiny orange bag to carry their possessions. Neither man’s account could be independently confirmed.

At her daily press briefing, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said Tuesday’s deportations were fewer than the daily average of roughly 500 last year.
