The Ministry of External Affairs issued a statement on Friday, highlighting the multifaceted bond between India and the USA, as well as the special nature of their economic ties. India’s relationship with the US remains strong, says the MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal.
Jaiswal stated that the two nations have established mechanisms to discuss trade and other matters, with India’s approach always focusing on constructive issue-resolution, considering the interests of both countries.
Jaiswal emphasized India’s zero-tolerance policy addressing the issue of illegal immigration, citing its links to organized crime. He stated that India will facilitate the return of Indian nationals who have overstayed or are residing abroad without proper documentation, provided their nationality is verified.
Jaiswal also clarified that illegal migration and trade are separate issues, with India’s opposition to illegal migration driven by concerns about its connection to organized crime. However, he did not provide information on the number of people being repatriated from the United States, stating that any discussion about numbers is premature.
India has been taking steps to combat illegal migration, including launching programs to educate people about the importance of following the law when traveling abroad. The government’s initiatives aim to raise awareness about safe and legal channels for migration, such as the ‘Surakshit Jayen Prashikshit Jayen’ campaign.
