Russian President Vladimir Putin claimed its war with Ukraine could have been avoided if US President Trump had not been ‘stolen’ of the 2020 Presidential elections.
Putin asserted that the ‘crisis’ that led Russia to rage a war against Ukraine in 2022 would not have been raised under the presidency of Trump if the election victory had not been ‘stolen’ from him. He referred to Trump as a smart and pragmatic person.
Trump while virtually addressing the World Economic Forum (WEF), shared his willingness to meet Putin to put an end to the ongoing war. He said, “It’s a carnage. And we really have to stop that war,”. Furthermore, during his election campaign had claimed to put an end to the war within twenty-four hours of assuming the Presidential office.
He further shared Russia’s readiness for negotiations on the Ukrainian issues. He shared his willingness to engage in talks with the US President and earlier His office had mentioned that the Russian President is now waiting for signals from Trump. He said, “Everyday we don’t meet, soldiers are being killed in the battlefield.”
Putin’s remarks are also considered a result of Russia’s faltering economy with labor shortages, skyrocketing interest rates, and internal dissent adding to the strain.
