US President Donald Trump declared on Tuesday that India would take the necessary steps to repatriate illegal immigrants just one day after speaking with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Additionally, the US President stated that PM Modi would be coming to the US “sometime in February”. This has not yet been confirmed by the Ministry of External Affairs.
Reports said that Trump said that he has spoken with Modi about immigration and India will do what is right when it comes to taking back illegal immigrants.
Further, Trump added that he had a long talk with Modi this morning (Monday). Modi is going to be coming to the White House, over next month, probably February and they have a very good relationship with India.
Trump’s statements come a day after the two leaders discussed matters related to global peace, security in the Indo-Pacific, the Middle East, and Europe along with a fair bilateral trading relationship.
“Delighted to speak with my dear friend President @realDonaldTrump @POTUS . Congratulated him on his historic second term. We are committed to a mutually beneficial and trusted partnership. We will work together for the welfare of our people and towards global peace, prosperity, and security,” PM Modi said after the talks concluded.
The leaders talked about how the two countries could work together more closely, notably by tackling important regional concerns including Middle East, European, and Indo-Pacific security.
President Trump emphasized the need for India to shift toward a more balanced trade relationship and to enhance its purchases of defense equipment manufactured in the United States.
In addition, they talked about Prime Minister Modi’s upcoming visit to the White House, which the statement said reflected the “strong friendship and strategic ties” between India and the United States.
Both leaders underlined their dedication to furthering their cooperation within the Indo-Pacific Quad alliance and fortifying the strategic partnership between the US and India.
The statement highlighted India’s crucial role in the region by pointing out that it will host the Quad Leaders’ Summit for the first time later this year.
