The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) wrapped up a significant three-day meeting at its camp during the Maha Kumbh Mela, emphasizing the urgent need to free Hindu temples from government oversight. The gathering, which saw participation from 950 delegates from India and various countries, culminated in a detailed action plan aimed at achieving this goal.
VHP International President Shri Alok Kumar addressed the media, outlining the first phase of the ‘Mandir Mukti Movement’. This phase will involve VHP activists and allied Hindu organizations submitting formal representations to Chief Ministers across all states, demanding the return of Hindu temples to the community.
Mr. Kumar announced plans for large public demonstrations in both North and South India to amplify these demands. In the subsequent phase, the VHP intends to organize meetings with influential figures in state capitals and major cities to rally public support for the temple liberation cause.
In states where government control over temples is particularly pronounced, VHP activists will engage with members of legislative assemblies and councils during upcoming sessions, urging them to advocate for the movement within their political parties.
The meeting reached a consensus on the necessity for complete independence in temple management, rejecting any form of external control. Kumar clarified that the Mandir Mukti Movement specifically targets temples currently under government administration, excluding those that are privately managed.
The VHP also stressed that temple funds should be exclusively allocated for Hindu religious purposes, advocating for a transparent accounting and auditing system. Furthermore, the organization called for inclusive temple management, ensuring representation from women and Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes within temple trusts.
Kumar assured that there would be no reduction in the salaries of priests and temple staff, emphasizing that their wages should meet or exceed the government-mandated minimum wage.
During discussions, the VHP plans to present a draft of a proposed Temple Liberation Law tailored for each state when meeting with Chief Ministers.
The meeting attracted representatives from various countries, including the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Germany, and South Africa, highlighting the global interest in the temple liberation initiative.
In addition to the primary agenda, delegates also committed to the Panch Parivartan, focusing on five key areas: environmental conservation, social harmony, family values, civic responsibilities, and the promotion of Swadeshi and self-respect within society’s moral framework.
The event was attended by esteemed spiritual leaders, including Yugapurush Pujya Swami Shri Paramanand Maharaj and Buddhist Lama Pujya Shri Chos Phel Jyotpa, alongside prominent figures from the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, such as Sarkaryavah Shri Dattatreya Hosabale and former Sarkaryavah Shri Bhaiyaji Joshi Ji.
As the VHP embarks on this ambitious movement, the organization aims to galvanize support from the Hindu community worldwide, advocating for the autonomy and proper management of Hindu temples.
