The swearing-in ceremony, demonstrating BJP’s historic return after 26 years in Delhi, is likely to take place on February 19 or 20 in a grand manner.
In the Delhi Assembly elections, the BJP overtook the Aam Aadmi Party by securing 48 seats out of a total of 70, while AAP trailed with 22 seats. The Congress, however, maintained its past record of securing nothing.
Before the swearing-in ceremony, a high-level meeting is anticipated between PM Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP President JP Nadda, and other senior party leaders to finalize the key decision of the government.
The meeting will take place after the Prime Minister returns from their official foreign visit. Following the meeting, there is a possibility of the announcement of the next Chief Minister of Delhi. Since Delhi is a union territory, the Chief Minister’s name requires approval from the President of India.
It is expected that this time along with the Chief Minister, a deputy chief minister would also be appointed to maintain the caste balance in the Delhi cabinet primarily between Bania, Punjabi, and Purvanchali- the communities backing the party in large numbers.
The cabinet may comprise seven ministers. Additionally, legislators would also be assigned to roles such as Speaker, Deputy Speaker, Chief Whip, Deputy Whip, and positions in the Delhi Jal Board, Delhi Commission for Women, and Delhi Development Authority.
The venue for the ceremony is still being scouted by the BJP, with Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium being the most likely choice, while Ramlila Maidan and the banks of the Yamuna are also among the top contenders.
The ceremony will be attended by Prime Minister Modi, Chief Ministers, and Deputy Chief Ministers of NDA-ruled states, along with other senior leaders. Additionally, invitations will be extended to more than 200 MPs and former MPs who participated in the Delhi poll campaign, as well as around 700 ‘vistaraks’ who helped the party gauge the pulse of voters.
The new government, during its term, will focus on clean drinking water supply, and improved civic infrastructure, among other priorities, according to some party leaders.
