The US President Donald Trump signed an executive order prohibiting “transgender ideology” and “invented pronouns” in the military, and the US Army has formally declared that transgender people will no longer be permitted to enlist for the service.
In a post on social media platform social media, the US Army stated, “The US Army will no longer allow transgender individuals to join the military and will stop performing or facilitating procedures associated with gender transition for service members.”
In addition, the Army stated that gender-affirming care would be put on hold indefinitely, but that those with gender dysphoria would receive respect and dignity for their willingness to serve America.
The post stated that all unscheduled, scheduled, or planned medical procedures associated with affirming or facilitating a gender transition for service members are paused, and all new accessions for individuals with a history of gender dysphoria are paused, effective immediately.
The Republican claimed that identifying as someone of a different sex than the one assigned at birth “conflicts with a soldier’s commitment to an honorable, truthful, and disciplined lifestyle, even in one’s personal life” in an executive order issued by President Donald Trump on January 27.
He went on to say that the military needed to update its strategy to address transgender personnel, arguing that their presence degraded combat readiness.
Claiming that transgender people’s presence was detrimental to military readiness, he said that a changed policy was needed to cope with them in the military.
After the Barack Obama administration repealed the ban on transgender military in 2016, Donald Trump had previously pledged to reinstate it.
Trump reiterated his call for a ban on transgender personnel during a Republican retreat in Miami, Florida, saying that “we will get transgender ideology the hell out of our military to ensure that we have the most lethal fighting force in the world.”
