Tensions between India and Pakistan have sharply escalated as Pakistani troops were seen advancing toward forward positions along the border, raising concerns over possible intensified hostilities. Indian officials, addressing the media on Friday, expressed alarm over these developments but stressed that the Indian armed forces are maintaining a strong defensive posture.
Wing Commander Vyomika Singh, speaking at the Ministry of External Affairs briefing, stated, “We have observed Pakistani troop movements into forward areas, signaling a clear intention to heighten tensions. The Indian armed forces remain fully prepared and operationally ready, ensuring that any hostile action is effectively countered.”
Singh emphasized India’s commitment to avoiding unnecessary escalation, provided Pakistan shows reciprocal restraint. “Our forces are exercising measured responses, and we remain dedicated to de-escalation — but only if the other side does the same,” she added.
Pakistan Launches Missile Strikes on Indian Bases
According to Indian officials, Pakistan launched a series of high-speed missiles early Friday morning, targeting key Indian military sites, including air bases in Punjab. The attacks reportedly extended to medical facilities in Srinagar, Avantipura, and Udhampur, causing further alarm.
Confirming the strikes, Colonel Sofia Qureshi informed reporters on Saturday, “The Pakistani military fired several high-speed missiles at 1:40 a.m., targeting our air base in Punjab. Additionally, they attacked health centers and schools near our military facilities in Kashmir.”
The missile attacks followed a deadly terror strike in Pahalgam, which killed 26 people, sparking renewed cross-border tensions. In response, India launched retaliatory strikes on Pakistani military positions. “A befitting reply has been delivered,” Qureshi asserted, noting that India had responded proportionally to the provocation.
Indian Countermeasures and Operational Readiness
India’s military response targeted multiple Pakistani bases, aiming to neutralize the threat posed by Islamabad’s initial missile offensive. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri addressed the media, describing Pakistan’s actions as deliberate provocations. “Despite the severe provocation, India’s response has been calibrated and measured. We remain focused on defending our sovereignty without escalating the situation beyond control,” Misri said.
Indian military officials reported that Pakistan had used a range of weaponry, including drones, long-range artillery, loitering munitions, and fighter jets. These attacks were aimed at various Indian military sites, particularly on the western borders. Singh detailed the extent of the Pakistani offensive: “They attempted aerial infiltration at over 26 points and damaged equipment and personnel at several Indian Air Force bases, including Udhampur, Bhuj, Pathankot, and Bathinda.”
Despite the intensity of the attacks, Indian defenses reportedly intercepted several threats and minimized damage. “We have neutralized many of their attempts, though some damage to our assets has occurred,” Singh added.
