New Delhi: To mark International Yoga Day 2025, the United Nation Welfare Foundation (UNWF) organized a large-scale yoga event at a community park in Geeta Colony. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from all sections of society and aimed at promoting the benefits of yoga as a holistic approach to health and well-being.
Led by Advocate Dr. Priyanka Arora, President of UNWF, and coordinated under the supervision of the organization’s Secretary, Mr. Sanjay Sharma, the program was a vibrant celebration of India’s ancient wellness practice.
The event was graced by special guests Mrs. Neema Bhagat, Municipal Councillor of Geeta Colony, and Dr. Anil Goyal, Member of the Legislative Assembly from Krishna Nagar. Both dignitaries addressed the attendees, highlighting the importance of incorporating yoga into daily routines to achieve physical, mental, and emotional balance.
In her address, Mrs. Bhagat emphasized yoga’s relevance in today’s fast-paced life, particularly in maintaining peace of mind and overall health. Dr. Goyal lauded the initiative taken by the UNWF, adding that such programs help in building community spirit and spreading awareness about healthy lifestyles.
The yoga session began with a warm-up and was followed by a series of traditional asanas, pranayama techniques, and guided meditation sessions. Expert yoga instructors demonstrated and guided participants through various exercises, ensuring people of all ages could engage safely and effectively. The event saw active involvement from children, youth, women, and senior citizens, creating a vibrant and inclusive atmosphere.
To add to the community spirit, refreshments including healthy food and snacks were distributed among the participants after the session.
The primary objective of the program was to promote awareness about the numerous benefits of yoga and to encourage its regular practice for improving both physical and mental well-being. The event was well-received by the attendees, who appreciated the efforts of the organizers and called it a commendable initiative for public welfare.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Priyanka Arora urged everyone to adopt yoga as a part of their daily lives. She noted that yoga is not just a set of physical exercises, but a complete lifestyle discipline that fosters harmony between the mind and body.
Dr. Arora also highlighted the origins of International Yoga Day, crediting its inception to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. She explained that the idea of dedicating a day to yoga was proposed by PM Modi at the United Nations General Assembly on September 27, 2014. The proposal received overwhelming support and was officially adopted by the UN on December 11, 2014. Since then, June 21 — the summer solstice and the longest day of the year — has been globally recognized as International Yoga Day due to its spiritual and astronomical significance.
“Let us make this day not just about doing yoga poses, but about embracing the values that yoga teaches — balance, discipline, and inner peace,” said Dr. Arora, concluding her address with a message for a healthy and mindful life.
The event reflected the growing awareness and acceptance of yoga as a powerful tool for wellness and community building. As citizens joined hands to stretch, breathe, and meditate together, the park in Geeta Colony turned into a vibrant hub of positive energy and collective harmony — truly embodying the spirit of International Yoga Day.
